New Year's Eve

I may actually make it to midnight this year.... interesting.

Well, I had a whole nice little post about the CD I was listening to... but the computer decided to lock up as I was polishing it off, so I lost the whole of it. 'Twas about Michael Card's "Starkindler" album.... very, very good, especially if you like Celtic styles and old hymns (even older than A Mighty Fortress!).

Speaking of Mighty Fortress, we sang that today in church. But, the third verse was omitted, unfortunately. To tell the whole story, you absolutely must have all four verses! Consider a rather shortened version:
A mighty fortress is our God...For still our ancient foe... on Earth is not His equal.... our striving would be losing, were not the right Man on our side... and He must win the battle!... And though this world... should threaten to undo us, we will not fear, for God hath willed His truth to triumph through us. The Prince of Darkness... we tremble not for him... for lo, his doom is sure - one little Word shall fell him. That Word... abideth: The Spirit and the Truth are ours, through Him... the body they may kill; God's truth abideth still! His Kingdom is FOREVER!

You know the parts I've omitted. It's a real story.

Well, it's ten minutes till eleven. Still one hour to go!

you guess? You don't know? How could you mess up on that verse???

(can you tell that's close to being my favorite verse, if it is not already?)

oh, that's too bad.... because, yes, hymns are wonderful. (At least most of them. Some have less-than-perfect melodies.) I recommend "Be Thou My Vision".

aw... that's a great way to ruin a great song...

That's funny. I never thought of And Can It Be as a jammin' song. Victory in Jesus, however... and Mighty Fortress for that matter, and Jesus Giveth Us the Victory, and Sound the Battle Cry (that's a great jumping one!).

I think I know a few too many.... :-P

how do you mean? You don't know very many songs at all, or just the same amount of secular music as Christian music?

heh, more than I am, it seems! My CD collection consists of... lemme think... a Michael Card, a Keith Green, a Rich Mullins, a Simon & Garfunkel, two Phantom of the Opera CDs, a couple Southern Gospel CDs from the county fair, a "praise & worship" CD which I keep only for two songs on it, and a CD I got from youth group... I really should give that last one away, come to think of it...

yeah, I don't buy CDs much... weird...
