Copy-editing is a dying art

My mom sent this in a forward this morning. I couldn’t stop giggling. This is just a small taste of my kind of humor…. all the comments below the headlines are not my own; rather, they were part of the e-mail as sent to me.

Proofreading is a dying art, wouldn’t you say?

Man Kills Self Before Shooting Wife and Daughter
This one I caught in the SGV Tribune the other day and called the Editorial Room and asked who wrote this. It took two or three readings before the editor realized that what he was reading was impossible!!! They put in a correction the next day.

Haha, these are great. Some I've seen on the 'net are these:
NFL.com: Vikings trounce visiting Vikings.
Yahoo.com: Northwest cancels fights, more expected Sunday.
Never knew Northwest not only had flights, but also had *fights*, did ya?

Hah! I love reading these collections. I kinda want to start my own but I never find ones funny enough.

Sounds like the Vikings had a bit of civil war going on... :P

Well, the Vikings *did* pick up one of the most hated opposing QB's in team history...that can cause a civil war...

If you say so. I don't really follow MN sports. :P

Ha, tis probably better that way. You have heard of Brett Favre though, yes? That was who I was referring to. Vikings fans generally thought he would take the team to the Super Bowl last year, while I was one of the five fans who was against having Brett Favre, and said he would only throw an interception to end the season for them. What did he do? He threw an interception to end the season. The game before the Super Bowl. I laughed... I am convinced that Vikings fans are generally some of the most ill-informed people on the face of the sports world...

I have indeed heard of Brett Favre (I even know how to pronounce that name). I see how he's an unpopular player.... congrats on your football-related perspicacity though. ;) You will have to educate the masses of ignorant Vikings fans in the years to come!
